A Guide to Find a Job
Hunting for a job is a tough thing to do, but it really all depends on your approach.
When you apply for a job, you are actually selling yourself to a potential employer. It is important to let your potential employer know why you are the right person for the job over other applicants. How can you stand out from the crowd?
Creating a great CV and cover letter is very important. This is very important since it is the one that introduces you to your potential employer, and your aim is to impress them. Failure is part of the process so don’t take it to heart too much. Accept the rejection and look for some other place to apply.
You can try these things if you are searching for a job.
Join Linkedin. Employers consider those who are part of LinkedIn. If you are interested in certain industries, join their discussion groups and start building your social network so that you are updated on job offers. If you want to get noticed, then follow the companies that you like and put comments on their posts. Ensure that the comments that your posts are just professional ones.
Most companies hire people who their trusted employees can vouch for. Perhaps you have a family member or a friend who works in a company that you want to work in; you can ask this friend or family if there are job openings in their company. You may be able to find out about vacancies which can put you at an advantage over your competitors if someone can recommend you.
Don’t just stick to job listings. Focus on specific companies rather than vacancies. Your interest in the company will show in what you say when you apply for a job there. You can also actually use job listing if you don’t find vacancies in companies that you visit. You can send a CV and cover letter to a company that has openings even if the role is not suitable for you. Who knows? The company may be expanding and will soon need employees with your skills. Your great CV and cover letter will show them what you’ve got.
You can also look for unfamiliar jobs that are available but you need to research on this and perhaps you will be interested to try them out. If you choose a less traditional career path, you could have less competition and you might find more opportunities available if you expand your horizons.
Potential employers will get an idea of what kind of worker you are by how you handle the application process. Don’t apply until you have researched about the company. If you understand the company and what they do, it could work to your advantage.
